FUN-D-RAISERS:
Some Fun for You and Funds to help those in poverty

With the current economy the requests for help by families in crisis are stretching the resources available to the maximum.  To help promote the needs of the clients as well as to promote the program's needs for financial as well as material donations, Neighbor Sharing with Neighbors in Crisis is coordinating several events to raise funds.  For details, please go to the 'Event Calendar' to the left:

Bike-Run August 25th, 2010 - A motorcycle ride and fund raiser to fight the effects of poverty on families in Kent and Sussex Counties of Delaware.  For details and more information call the office at 424-7260 or come back to the site next month for more details.

PENNIES FOR POVERTY RELIEF - This month long event raised $180.00 to help families in poverty.  Sisters on a Mission was the largest organization/business donor brining in over $100.00 in pennies.  Thank you Dorothy Dukes for helping our own Wayne Dukes (SSSI) wrap all of them.  Our largest individual donor, G. Groff, raised just over $7.00 in less than 2 weeks.  Our winners not only brought in the most pennies but they also donated back the prize of $25.00 gift card to a store or business of their choice for Adopt-a-Family to use to help those in need.  Other business participates included members of the Sussex County Interagency Council and Curves of Milford.

We thank all our participants for collecting pennies to help others less fortunate and hope that next year's campaign will have even more participants and greater response so we can serve those who are in need for the basics for life, home, school and the holidays.  Please mark your "Pennies for Poverty" campaign on your calendar for the month of April 2010.   Hope to see you with your pennies the 1st week of May 2010.

Advanced Order Cookbook Sales - The cookbook is ready for print, but we do not have a sponsor to cover the cost of the cookbook printing.  The council decided to post-pone the printing of the cookbook either until a sponsor is found for the cost of printing or we have sufficient pre-orders to pay for the printing.  This decision was made in light of the current economy.  Therefore, the council is interested in taking advanced orders if you are interested in purchasing a cookbook.  We will order them only if we have sufficient orders to pay for the printing.  The cookbook has 200 recipes and will be sold for $12.00 each.  If you are interested, please mail your check or money order to 13 S.W. Front St., Suite 103, Milford, DE  19963.  Your check will be deposited and if we do not get enough sales by the end of September 2009, your money will be refunded. If we have sufficient orders to purchase the cookbook, we will order the books and you would have them in time to give as Christmas gifts to family, friends, co-workers, etc.

Even though the cookbook sales would increase funds we need for client services if they were all sold, it would require over half of them to be sold before the investment funds would be recuperated.  Therefore, the council has decided that having the money available to provide needed supplies for families is more critical at this time than investing money into printing cookbooks that have to be sold before recuperating the investment funds, let alone seeing any profits.
